Visit of Senator Irfan Ul Haque Siddiqui, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Senate of Pakistan, to Norway (27–28 August 2025)

Senator Irfan Ul Haque Siddiqui, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Senate of Pakistan, undertook an official visit to Norway from 27–28 August 2025 as part of his 3-nation tour in Scandinavia aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s engagement with partner countries.

Upon arrival of Senator Irfan Siddiqui in Oslo, Ambassador Saadia Altaf Qazi hosted a dinner in his honour at Pakistan House. The dinner was attended by prominent dignitaries including Norway’s State Secretary (Deputy Minister) for Health and Care Services Mr. Usman Mushtaq, Acting U.S. Ambassador to Norway Mr. Eric Meyer, former Members of the Norwegian Parliament and politicians of Pakistani origin.

Talking to his Norwegian interlocutors, Senator Siddiqui appreciated the longstanding positive trajectory of Pakistan-Norway relations and highlighted the potential of enhancing bilateral cooperation in multiple fields. He praised the constructive role of the multigenerational Pakistani diaspora in Norway in promoting goodwill and strengthening ties between the two countries. He also underscored the importance of closer parliamentary linkages and people-to-people contacts as key pillars of bilateral engagement.

During his discussion with Mr. Eric Meyer, Senator Siddiqui underscored Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening its friendly relations with the United States, highlighting the importance of sustained engagement at both political and institutional levels. Mr. Meyer, who has till recently served as Special Assistant & Senior Adviser in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs at US Department of State, recalled his visit to Pakistan as leader of US delegation to the Critical Mineral Conference held in Islamabad earlier this year. He appreciated Pakistan’s economic potential and expressed hope that Pak-US relations would continue to build upon the existing foundations of multi-faceted partnership.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to project Pakistan’s perspective on regional and global issues, while also reinforcing Pakistan’s resolve to build stronger partnerships with Norway and the wider international community.
